STAAR Test Readability;

Are the tests written to the students’ grade level?

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to calculate the readability scores of each STAAR Reading Test Passage given to third through sixth grade students between the years 2013 and 2018. Most scores calculated from the readability tests revealed different grade levels than the grade level being tested. When comparing calculated scores to grade levels, the passage readability should align with the grade level tested. The data exposed misaligned readability score comparisons of individual passages for each grade level over the years tested.
